Making a Compassion Connection

It seems that compassion, empathy, and kindness are ethics that are decreasing in our society. Instead, cold-hearted and indifference are commonplace and even encouraged when conflict exists. Open hostility has become acceptable and violence at all levels is unfortunately the norm, even among Christians. The love and compassion connection that once held our families, communities and nation together has eroded. How can it be restored? Might we consider that it all begins with each of our hearts. Our thoughts, responses, words, and actions must humbly be submitted to God to allow Him to pour His compassion into our hearts. When we have truly received His compassion, we will begin to respond prayerfully rather that react emotionally.
Have you made a compassion connection lately? Your response might be, what is a compassion connection? Well, a compassion connection occurs when a person makes an intentional decision to show compassion, empathy, mercy, and kindness to another person, family or group of people. Empathy enables us to understand that it is “because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed” (Lamentations 3:22). It also inspires us to ‘walk a mile in the other persons shoes’ before we respond to them.
Will you choose empathy over enmity? Will you allow God to pour his compassion into you and intentionally make a compassion connection with people at every opportunity?
