Scripture: Matthew 7:7-8
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
Thought for Today: What do you want to ask of God?
ASK is a term that is often overlooked as an important part of our relationship with Christ. His ears are always open to our concerns, needs and desires. He invited us to ask, seek, and to knock. We must learn how to approach Christ in prayer if we truly desire to know Him and accept this invitation.
Jesus said that He came to earth that we may live “life more abundantly.” He alone is the source for everything that we need spiritually and naturally to live as He has promised. He is willing and waiting to supply every need that you have if you will simply ask Him!
Prayer is the personal privilege of talking with the Lord. We can ask Him questions that only He can answer, request solutions to issues that only He can provide. Jesus promised we will be given what we ask for, find what we seek, and that closed doors will be opened. Praying with this assurance includes:
• Asking in faith (James 1:5-8). To doubt Him is to be double-minded.
• Requesting according to His Word and His Will (1 John 5:14,15).
• Patiently waiting for His answer following prayer (Psalm 27:4).
• Obeying His instructions (John 14:23,24).
As you ask things of God in prayer, the Holy Spirit will give you the words to speak and will intercede before the Father on your behalf.
Jesus teaches the disciples (and us) how to approach Him in Matthew 7:7-8. He challenges them and offers to make their requests known directly to Him. Later, He says, “You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” (John 14:14).
So as we pray, let’s pray with boldness, yet approaching the Lord in humility. Ask (believing) with confidence, Seek with care and pursuit, Knock with persistence and watch God move with power and authority in our life and circumstances.
Remember, it’s in the Asking!
