Proverbs 29:18: Where there is no vision the people perish; but he that keeps the law, happy is he.
Matthew 6:22, 23: The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness.
Thought for Today
The year 2024 erupted with the speed of lightening! Believers in Christ are bursting with hope and expectancy that He will reveal fresh vision surrounding His kingdom. Most likely, you’re reading this devotional as part of your personal commitment to dedicate the next twenty-one days to prayer, fasting, worship, study, and meditation. You’re among countless others during this season whose heart’s desire is to increase intimacy with God to see clearly what is ahead for their lives.
Commonly, people begin each year with annual physical exams to ensure they are in stable health. The yearly eye exam is a vital part of this routine. Though this is truly important, a spiritual vision check-up, with adjustments as needed, should take precedence over any assessments of your physical body. Blessed with seeing another new year ushers in the opportunity to let the Holy Spirit closely examine your spiritual vision, allowing Him to make changes to improve, or enlighten, the eyes of your understanding.
I Can See Clearly Now
In 1972, singer-songwriter Johnny Nash released the title “I Can See Clearly Now.” In part, the first verse states: I can see clearly now the rain is gone. I can see all obstacles in my way. Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind. It’s gonna be a bright (bright) sunshiny day.
The song sailed to the top of music charts around the globe upon its release. It has been, and still is, recorded and sampled by other artists; it is also featured in movies and videos. When questioned about the song’s success, Mr. Nash was reported as saying he purposely wrote the lyrics to inspire hope and courage to people who have overcome adversity. In essence, the songwriter expressed that darkness and obstacles which obscured his vision had been lifted. He could now clearly see the brilliance of the day. Can you relate to this sentiment?
To a far greater extent, laser focus is needed to illuminate what the Lord God has ordained for your life. While you certainly use your natural eyes on a daily basis, the things that are “unseen” should be your primary concentration. It is in the spiritual realm where you will seek and find God’s purpose, wisdom, and guidance with vibrant clarity.
How to Clear Your Vision
Hindrances to spiritual sight and insight can be compared to what may decrease the quality of natural eyesight. For instance, tunnel vision is a disorder in which sight is limited to a pinpoint view without seeing surrounding objects. Spiritually, to view your life though a tiny lens means you do not see “what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us” which surround you. Other common vision disorders such as blurred vision, double vision, near and far sightedness can also illustrate the dire need to continually seek God for 20/20 vision with a spiritual mindset.
God does not leave you alone to find your way to a “sunshiny day.” He places kingdom-minded people in your life to teach, pray, encourage, and assist you in your journey. Confirmation from the Holy Spirit and the Word of God will reveal your gifts, duties, and purpose in His Kingdom. Unblemished spiritual vision gives you discernment and knowledge to make biblically sound decisions and take kingdom minded actions.
Therefore, ask the Lord for people and opportunities that present you with fresh and anointed visualisation according to His will. God’s reminder in Proverbs 29:18 is that the people perish when there is no vision. While this void can result in physical death, the verse also confirms that vitality wanes, light darkens, and passion dies without a life vision or resolution. You are here to see another year by God’s intention. Start this year off with a commitment to improve your spiritual sightedness, where kingdom visions are found.
While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are

Prayer
Lord God, open my mind and my heart to the plans You have for me. Help me to avoid distractions that prevent me from a clear line of sight to what you desire for me to be as a member of the Body of Christ. I ask for this love, attention and clarity upon my brothers and sisters around the world who are seeking the same. In the name of Jesus. Amen
